Officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Oenoke Ridge Road and Main Street shortly before 10 p.m. on Dec. 23, where there was a reported one-vehicle crash with the driver pinned inside.

Upon speaking with the driver, Norwalk resident David Fuhrman, officers said that they detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. He was subsequently transported by the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corp. for further evaluation.

Police said that the subsequent investigation resulted in an arrest warrant being obtained for Fuhrman after a search warrant for his blood alcohol content determined that it was .30 percent, more than triple the legal .08 percent limit.

Fuhrman surrendered himself into police custody on Friday, Feb. 23, and he was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Following arraignment, he was released on $2,500 bond and he is due back in New Canaan Justice Court on March 6 to answer the charge.
